About this Event

Journey’s End A sublime play: a corkscrew of tension, emotion and drama (The Independent). Journey’s End is a potent and unflinching vision of life in the trenches. Set in 1918, and now commemorating the centenary of the end of WW1, it’s about a group of British soldiers under fire in a front line dugout in France. A young 18 year old officer joins the besieged Company captained by his school friend and hero Stanhope – and finds him dramatically changed. The German spring offensive is looming, and R.C. Sherriff, who served in the East Surrey Regiment, writes from his own personal experience of trench warfare. This is an extraordinary, gripping production of a great anti-war classic, full of heroism and beautifully observed humanity.
