“Highly recommend this glorious thing, 2 hours, 3 pubs, tall tales, what’s not to like?!” -Kathryn Davis, Director of Tourism, Visit West
“excellent research… charismatic delivery… comedy… with a little vicarious thrill of terror” -Bristol 247
Edward Teach – aka Blackbeard – was the world’s most infamous pirate. And until his violent death in battle 300 years ago he was also the most feared. Teach is said to have been born in Bristol but no records survive. Now new research in Jamaica has proved the Teach family’s West Country origins – and the Blackbeard emerging from the shadows couldn’t be more different from your stereotype, rum-soaked TREASURE ISLAND pirate. But still very scary indeed.
Your fully-qualified pirate guide is accompanied by Ted the fact-checking parrot - and the worst pirate jokes you’ll ever hear. Walk in Blackbeard’s footsteps around Bristol docks, find out what we do know about him and pause at a couple of dockside hostelries. By the end of the tour you’ll be able to separate the fact from the fiction and you’ll never be short of a story down the pub again.
