White Christmas Character Guide
Judy Haynes
Judy Haynes is Betty's younger sister and the bubbly half of their performing duo. She is fun, flirtatious, and always ready for an adventure. She falls for Phil Davis and helps scheme to get Bob and Betty together.
Personality for Dance
Judy moves with bouncy, infectious energy. She is lighter and more playful than Betty. Her smile is constant and genuine. She throws herself into everything with enthusiasm, whether it is performing, matchmaking, or falling in love. She is the spark that gets things moving in the story.
The Outfit
Top
Bright, cheerful 1950s tops. Peter Pan collars, fitted cardigans in pinks or yellows. For the Sisters number, matching costume with Betty.
Bottom
Full skirts in fun patterns or bright colors. Petticoats for extra volume and movement. She should look youthful and energetic compared to Betty's sophistication.
Accessories
Hair ribbons, a small brooch, simple bangles. Her accessories should be fun and youthful rather than elegant. Matching fan with Betty for the Sisters number.
Shoes
Low character heels or dance flats in a bright color. She needs to be able to move quickly and lightly.
Hair
Soft curls or a high ponytail with a ribbon. Her style should be more youthful and playful than Betty's polished waves.
Special Details
For The Best Things Happen While You're Dancing, she needs a costume that moves beautifully in turns and lifts. A flowing skirt or dress that creates beautiful shapes in the air.
Movement Tips
-
Energy should be slightly higher than everyone else in the room. Judy brings the fun. -
The Sisters number is her chance to show off technical skill alongside Betty. Make the synchronisation sharp. -
With Phil, the chemistry should be playful. Quick exchanges, shared jokes through movement. -
Her solo in The Best Things Happen While You're Dancing should be dreamy and romantic, a shift from her usual energy.
Best for ages 12-17. Judy suits a dancer with natural energy and a bright stage presence. She needs to look younger than Betty, so casting with that contrast in mind is helpful.
