Fear

Fear is the wiry, purple emotion responsible for keeping Riley safe. He sees danger everywhere and his job is to prevent bad things from happening. He is nervous, jumpy, and prone to screaming at shadows, but his intentions are good.

Personality for Dance

Fear moves with nervous, darting energy. He never stands in one place for long. His eyes scan the room, his head jerks at every sound, and his body is always ready to run. He tiptoes, he flinches, he ducks behind others. When startled, his whole body contracts. His hands flutter near his face, he bites his nails, and he wrings his hands constantly. Despite all this, he is endearing because he genuinely wants to help.

The Outfit

Top

Purple fitted sweater vest over a lighter purple or lavender shirt. The look should be slightly nerdy and buttoned-up. A bow tie adds to the anxious, over-prepared quality.

Bottom

Purple trousers, slightly too short, showing socks. The fit should be a bit awkward, like someone who dressed in a hurry while worrying about something else.

Accessories

A bow tie that he adjusts nervously. A clipboard or list of dangers he consults. No loose accessories that could fly off during the jumping and flinching.

Shoes

Purple shoes or sneakers. Something he could run in at a moment's notice.

Hair

A single curl or wisp of purple hair on top of an otherwise bald head. This is his signature look. A purple bald cap with one attached wire curl works well.

Special Details

Consider a small handheld prop that Fear clutches for security, like a safety manual or a small blanket. The prop gives his hands something to do during moments when he is not actively panicking.

Movement Tips

Everything is a flinch. Sounds, movements, even his own shadow. React to everything as a potential threat.
Use quick, darting runs on tiptoe. Fear never walks confidently to a destination.
Hands near the face at all times. Covering eyes, biting nails, clutching cheeks in horror.
When he does something brave, make it small and shaky. His courage is visible precisely because it is so difficult for him.

Age Recommendations

Best for ages 8-14. Fear is an excellent role for a dancer with natural comic timing who can sustain nervous energy without it becoming one-note. The physicality is accessible but the character work needs to be specific.
