Encanto Character Guide
Mirabel is the only Madrigal without a magical gift. She is curious, determined, and fiercely loyal to her family. As the lead, she carries the emotional heart of the story.
Mirabel moves with restless energy. She is always looking, reaching, wanting. Her gestures are open and expressive, arms wide when excited, hands clasped when worried. She trips, stumbles, and recovers because she is not perfect and that is the point.
White off-shoulder peasant blouse with gathered sleeves. The neckline should be elasticated for easy movement. Colourful embroidered butterflies across the front and sleeves. Look for pre-embroidered fabric or use iron-on patches for a similar effect.
Teal full circle skirt that hits mid-calf. The skirt should have colourful embroidered details along the hem. A built-in petticoat helps the skirt move beautifully during spins.
Round teal glasses (can use costume frames without lenses for safety). Butterfly hair clips. Small embroidered bag worn crossbody is optional but adds character.
Simple black character shoes or ballet flats. Espadrilles work for a more authentic Colombian look but may not be suitable for all choreography.
Long curly black hair worn down with a centre part. Use a wig if needed. Add butterfly clips scattered throughout.
Consider adding subtle sparkle or iridescent fabric to suggest the magic she eventually discovers within herself.
Best for ages 10-17. The role requires strong acting ability alongside dance skills. Younger dancers aged 6-9 can play young Mirabel in flashback or opening scenes.
