Alice in Wonderland Character Guide
Alice is the sensible girl who falls into a world that makes no sense. She is curious, polite, and increasingly frustrated as Wonderland refuses to follow any rules she understands. She is the audience surrogate, reacting to the madness around her with a mix of wonder, confusion, and determination to find her way home.
Alice moves with a natural, grounded quality that contrasts with everything around her. She is the still centre of a spinning world. Her reactions are honest, wide eyes, startled jumps, tentative steps into new spaces. She tries to apply logic to chaos and her body shows the effort. She reaches for order, straightens her dress, clasps her hands properly, but Wonderland keeps pulling her off balance.
A light blue fitted bodice or pinafore dress over a white blouse with puffed sleeves. The blue should be a clear, bright Alice blue.
A full blue skirt with white petticoat showing underneath. Knee-length works best for dancing. The skirt should move well for turns.
A white apron over the dress. A black velvet headband. White knee-high socks or tights.
Black Mary Jane shoes or black character shoes. Simple and proper.
Long blonde hair worn down with a black headband. Straight or with a slight curl at the ends.
Consider a "growing and shrinking" effect using different-sized dancers playing Alice at different moments. Props can change scale around her. An oversized key, a tiny door frame, mushrooms of different heights.
Best for ages 10-16. Alice suits dancers with strong acting ability and clean classical technique. The role needs someone who can react genuinely to absurd situations. Younger dancers aged 7-9 can play a young Alice following the White Rabbit.
