Grease Character Guide
Rizzo is the leader of the Pink Ladies, the toughest girl at Rydell High. She uses sarcasm and attitude as armour, pushing people away before they can disappoint her. Underneath the bravado she is vulnerable, especially during There Are Worse Things I Could Do, which reveals the real person behind the leather.
Rizzo moves like she owns every room she walks into. She takes up space on purpose, leans into people's personal space, and her gestures are sharp and dismissive. Arms crossed, hip popped, chin up. But in quieter moments the shield drops. Her shoulders soften, her gaze drops, and she holds herself like someone who is tired of fighting. The best Rizzos let the audience see both sides without telegraphing it.
Pink satin Pink Ladies jacket worn over a black or dark red fitted top. The jacket is her armour. She wears it differently from the other Pink Ladies, collar popped, sleeves pushed up, more attitude in how it sits.
Black capri pants or fitted dark jeans. Higher waist than the other girls. Nothing frilly, nothing pastel. Rizzo does not do cute.
A cigarette holder prop for attitude moments. Dark sunglasses pushed up on her head. A simple chain necklace. She accessorises less than the other Pink Ladies because she does not need to try.
Black ankle boots or black character shoes with a low heel. Something with weight that you can hear when she walks. Rizzo makes an entrance.
Dark hair pulled into a high ponytail or styled in a short, sharp bob. Either way it is out of her face and practical. She does not fuss with it.
During There Are Worse Things I Could Do, consider a lighting change that strips away the set. Just Rizzo, alone on stage. The jacket can come off for this number, leaving her in the simple dark top. Exposed.
Best for ages 13-17. Rizzo needs a performer with genuine stage presence who can command attention without being the centre of the choreography. Strong acting skills matter as much as dance ability. This role suits the dancer who is always the most interesting person to watch, even in the back row.
