About Newsies
Inspired by the true events of the 1899 Newsboys’ Strike in New York City, Newsies tells the rousing story of a band of young newspaper sellers who dream of a better life. When powerful publishers raise distribution prices at the expense of the newsboys, charismatic leader Jack Kelly rallies his fellow “newsies” to strike for fairness. With high-energy dance numbers, unforgettable songs, and an inspiring message about standing up for what’s right, Newsies is a celebration of courage, friendship, and the power of young voices to make a difference.
