Max

Max is the Grinch's long-suffering but loyal dog. He gets dragged into every scheme, wears a reindeer antler tied to his head, and does his best despite the chaos. He is the heart of the comedy.

Personality for Dance

Max moves like a dog. He trots, he pants, he wags, he cowers. His loyalty shows in how he follows the Grinch everywhere, even when things go wrong. He reacts to everything with his whole body. Tail between legs when scolded, full-body wiggle when praised. The comedy comes from his earnest attempts to do what the Grinch asks despite being completely unsuited to the task.

The Outfit

Top

Brown or tan bodysuit or fitted top. Keep it simple and dog-coloured. Add floppy felt ears on a headband.

Bottom

Matching brown or tan leggings. A small stuffed tail pinned to the back that moves when the dancer moves.

Accessories

The antler is essential. One single antler tied to the top of the head with a red ribbon, leaning to one side. This is Max's signature look. Add a red collar with a tag.

Shoes

Brown or tan jazz shoes or soft ballet shoes. Paw-print covers are a fun optional touch.

Hair

Hidden under a brown hood or cap. All focus should be on the ears and antler.

Special Details

A small red nose for the reindeer disguise scene. Brown face paint on the nose tip. Consider a simple harness or rope lead that the Grinch can hold during sleigh scenes.

Study how dogs actually move. The head leads, the body follows. Panting with the tongue out gets a laugh every time.
